A tribute to my favorite Monkee

So, let me give you all a little personal backstory on me. Like many 90s kids, I grew up with Nickelodeon and by extension Nick at Nite. I was a huge fan of a lot of shows they played and grew to love TV of the 60s, 70s and 80s by way of the throw back programming. Along with the shows, I also grew to love a lot of the actors and was always disappointed that I wasn't around to actually see them in their prime. Unfortunately, in 2003, I lost one of my biggest childhood Nick at Nite loves, John Ritter, who played Jack Tripper on Threes' Company. But, just this morning, the six-year-old inside of me was absolutely crushed by the loss of my very first Nick at Nite love, Davy Jones. Although it's been years since I've watched the Monkees, I look back fondly on the days when I used to watch him play the tambourine like a boss as I drank my hot chocolate on the couch before bed. So, here is my tribute to Davy Jones, my Nick at Nite crush circa 1996.

The Monkees theme song

One of my favorite, lesser known Monkees songs

And of course, my favorite Davy Jones clip, his cameo on The Brady Bunch

RIP Davy, I'll miss you.

Kids show episode!

Who's ready to go from drama of high school all the way back to a carefree elementary school mindset, with Watchin' Stuff's cartoons and childhood shows episode this Friday? I know I am. And to get you all in the mood for some 90s children programming, check out this gems I just found.

Watchin' Stuff promo

All right, got another little bit of something for you guys today. It's the promo Talor and I made for the show. Admittedly, not our best work, but still characteristically silly and fun I'd say. Check it out if you're interested.

Recap of Episode 3: Freaks and Geeks

Hey everybody, sorry it's taken me a little longer than normal to do this but here are links to some things mentioned on yesterday's show.

Since I already posted the real Freaks and Geeks intro, here's the actual Bad Reputation, by Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, video for your viewing pleasure.

The Full Freaks and Geeks castlist.

Future celebrity sightings we mentioned:

List of songs we played.

Groove Line video as recommended by my mom, Janet, on the chatroll

Songs we would use to serenade a "potential lover":

Kait's pick: Do You Wanna Touch Me (Oh Yeah)

Talor's Pick: Fat Bottomed Girls

Some fun clips we talked about:
And clips from the cast's first acting jobs:
Side note, my apologies to Busy Philips, Holly Hunter and anyone who watches or is involved in the making of the TNT series, Saving Grace. During the show I used a role in the 1999 series Saving Graces as Busy Philips' first acting job in the game I made for Talor. Unfortunately, I used the synopsis for the Holly Hunter show Saving Grace. Very unprofessional of me, especially because we proceeded to (perhaps undeservingly) make fun of the show based on said synopsis. Sorry for the confusion, it won't happen again.

Anyway, that's all I've got for this one but tune in next week for our Cartoons and Childhood Favorites episode!

Freaks and Geeks week: Bill Haverchuck clips

All right folks, I apologize for being a little lax on hyping the Freaks and Geeks episode. Please don't take that to mean that I'm not excited for this one, because I am, or that we aren't working to provide a great show on Friday, because we most definitely are. It's just Freaks and Geeks doesn't lend itself to clips as well as our previous shows. That being said, there are a couple choice Bill clips I'd like to provide for you all just because I like you. Please, enjoy.

And finally, proof of the show's quotability, this is the whiteboard on my fridge. This was a running game between my roommates and I for about a week. In case you can't read them, the quotes are:
  • "We have a me no no bring bags"
  • "Cacao!"
  • "A-oh River"
  • "Put a bird on it!"
  • "I made a homemade quesadilla"
  • "I do a lot of canning of jams and I would like to can you"
  • "I'm just a little guy"
  • "Cheese boats are dope"
  • "Whose dog is this, the one with the lips that are falling off?"
  • "Jenna get yo' acupuncture"
  • "I'm not gonna go crazy on the counter or anything"
  • "You've got a neck like a movie star"
  • "No, you go"

I really hope that was everything. If there's anything else you care to know, please comment. Also, if you have IFC, tune in for the seventh episode of Portlandia season 2. Podcast and drinking game should be posted shortly. Thanks guys.

Official Watchin' Stuff theme song!

Only 15 hours until the debut of Watchin' Stuff and I couldn't be more excited. Seeing as this is the final day before we rock the airwaves, I've decided to give you all a little show teaser by posting the official Watchin' Stuff theme song for your listening pleasure. I hope you like it, and if you can guess the origin of every sound bite you'll win a prize. Okay, that's a lie, I have nothing to give you. But still, I'd like to see if anyone can figure it out for bragging rights.

Howdy

Hello folks,

Because I am bad at posting regularly, or at all apparently, I have missed the opportunity to introduce myself, and the show. Since Kait has done just that, I wanted to put some words to the name and let everyone know that I am Talor, the other half of Watchin' Stuff. I am here today to let you all know that I am committed to being here more often, and providing you with quality entertainment on the air. To make up for my tardiness:

Official Watchin' Stuff promo photo!

Hi all! Some exciting news, Watchin' Stuff now has an official photo!

Hope you all find it as exciting as I do. Only four more days until the first episode of Watchin' Stuff. Talor and I sat down this afternoon and hammered out the majority of the details, so it looks like we might have a semi-perferonal inaugural show.

Also, it's seems that for some reason my second post was deleted, at least that's how it looks right now. Who knows, it might show up again later. Blogging is an imperfect art. Anyway, here's a link to the Watchin' Stuff Facebook page. Please, drop by and like us.

In other news, I created a Facebook page for the show so please, come on down and like us!

Then, after you do that, get into an Arrested Development mindset for Friday by checking out this tumblr: The Bluth Company It's the best appreciation tumblr I've ever seen.

Welcome to Watchin' Stuff!

Hello everyone, my name is Kait Valdez and I would like to welcome you to the official blog for KSFS Radio's newest Friday morning talk show, Watchin' Stuff. Every week my co-host, Talor Jacobs, and I will be discussing a different television show (or group of television shows) for your enjoyment and information. Our first show will air a week from today, Friday, February 10 at 9 AM on KSFS Radio, which can be accessed here. For our first show, we will be discussing the cult classic sitcom, Arrested Development. Whether you've seen the show or not, Watchin' Stuff's inaugural episode should be fun for the whole family, so I highly recommend you check it out. If for some reason you aren't able to listen to our live broadcast, we have plans to post all episodes here as a podcast, so be sure to check back to listen in and access links to things mentioned on the show.
